
System Design Engineer
The Role Summary:
To provide Design & Engineering support to Solution Architects, Account Managers and Project Managers to cover the technical aspects of the pre sales design and documentation of Audio, Video and Lighting Systems in the Broadcast, Conference and Entertainment industries. To work with d&b Solutions colleagues and customers as necessary, to ensure that d&b solutions offer/meet the needs of internal and external customers.
Working across large scale consultancy projects, tender proposals and design & build opportunities, the role focusses on the production of technical drawings and documentation in line with our client’s needs, to ensure our pre-sales and coordination project phases are fully supported. This requires direct client communication and the ability to attend site to monitor progress and update information as necessary, subject to the project requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- A solid background in system design and equipment specification, as well as an understanding of project installation.
- Proficiency in the use of 2D CAD packages for complex drawing sheets and packs.
- An understanding of 3D drawing and visualisation workflows in order to communicate system design intent efficiently, including but not limited to Capture, Sketchup, Array Calc etc.
- Working closely with the client and other key project stakeholders on detailed coordination of the AVLM hardware integration.
- Ability to understand and complete AV systems, including detailed engineering drawings as required by projects.
- A clearly defined understanding of current AV practices, manufacturers and equipment usage, specification and integration.
- A good working knowledge of AV over IP, LED Technology, and IT Networks.
- Very strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Supporting Solutions Architects in the completion of Bill of Materials including pricing.
- Communicating, requesting and interpreting quotes and information from suppliers.
- Completing equipment performance, requirements, and limitation calculations for systems.
- Completing detailed design schematics to a high standard.
- Collaborating throughout the whole project process including Pre-sales, Engineering & Delivery and Post Delivery Support.

- Producing accurate, high‑quality information that meets client and project requirements.
- Ensuring pre‑sales, engineering, delivery, and post‑delivery phases are fully supported with accurate, timely technical input.
- Handling several projects simultaneously while ensuring all deadlines are met.

Technical Skills:
- A clearly defined understanding of current AVLM practices and workflows, manufacturers and equipment usage, specification and integration.
- A good working knowledge of AVLM and IT systems.
- Proven IT skills, including use of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) Working knowledge of an internal e-mail system and electronic diary is essential.
- Previous experience of project design and technical specification.
- Financial acumen, budget consciousness, and sharp eye for numbers.
- A good understanding and awareness of AVLM systems and signal types.
Professional Skills:
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to support other team members with technical advice and support as required.
- Ability to interact effectively at all levels, relating to others and working as a member of a team.
- Very strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Deadline conscious, highly organised with the ability to prioritise and multi-task managing workload and meet strict deadlines.

Experience and Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in a technical or audio visual environment.
- Proven experience in all or some of the following disciplines;: Audio, Video, Lighting, Network or Broadcast.
- Experience working with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high‑quality services or projects.
- It is not essential, but it would be desirable to have experience with Revit and BIM.
