The Role Summary
To educate and inspire potential clients on the exciting possibilities offered by LD, Broadcast, VP and XR solutions, and provide Design and Consultation support to our Solution Architects and Account Managers. The role will cover the Immersive Media market across Broadcast, Virtual Production (VP) and Extended Reality (XR) technical aspects of pre sales design, and include supporting Business winning for the Integration Team.

This role would include supporting the creation of documentation for Audio, Video and Lighting Systems in the Broadcast, Conference and Entertainment segments and working with d&b solutions colleagues and customers as necessary, to ensure that d&b solutions identifies and delivers the requirements of both internal and external customers. Additionally, the role requires a broad knowledge of Broadcast workflows within a studio and OB environment, that can build a bespoke workflow based on budget. The applicant should also have a good knowledge of broadcast cameras, servers and graphics engines.

Our History with Studio and XR Projects
White Light has extensive experience with XR Projects in the broadcast and installation segments; our team were pioneers in the field, delivering our first dynamic real-time projection backdrop for the Rugby World cup in 2011, and developing this to create the innovative SmartStage immersive solution.

From the first XR LED volume on live TV in 2017, to the first fully hybrid XR set in 2019, to the award-winning Michigan Ross XR teaching lab and Sky multisport XR presentation space in 2022 and 2023 respectively, White Light leads the way in design, delivery and support of XR environments across the world and recently made a big splash at ISE 2024, working with several trusted LED-screen partners to showcase cutting edge XR stages, demonstrating the latest technology in a live environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities of the role:

  • Attending ‘Client Brief meetings’ with AM’s and/or SA’s, taking Client Brief, providing knowledge and ideas, and interpreting/relaying to internal team
  • Attending internal meetings to support development or sales opportunities and kick off awarded projects to help smooth handover/transition of projects through the business
  • Assist with prequalification of incoming sales opportunities related to System Design Department
  • Supporting Solution Architects (SA’s) and Technical Design Engineers (TDE’s) in completion of hardware quote building, bill of materials and ball-park costs for pre-sales client opportunities
  • Documenting and communicating high level system overview requirements to SA’s and TDE’s to help in their creation of documentation including system topologies/flow diagrams
  • Participating in and providing Design Consultancy offerings to clients in the form of written proposals, presentations and equipment specifications, and supporting System Design Teams in the same
  • Attending consultancy workshop meetings (in-person/online) as required and presenting works
  • Keeping up to date with latest Technology news and releases
  • Assisting/sharing knowledge with design department for specialist areas to aid development of team
  • Identifying, selecting and presenting equipment at in person/online demos, alongside the AM/SA’s
  • Generally being a Point-of-Contact where required for technical support throughout life of a project
  • Attending team and inter-department meetings where required and working closely with AM’s and Head of System Design

Technical Skills

  • A clearly defined understanding of current VP & XR practices and workflows, manufacturers and equipment usage, specification and integration
  • A good working knowledge of AV and IT systems, with experience with LED Specifications and manufacturing methods/technologies
  • A solid background in system design and equipment specification for Broadcast & Camera systems, as well as an understanding of project installation practices
  • Ability to understand the technology and workflow for SDI/NDI/AV over IP systems and communicate these solutions both internally and to clients
  • Ability to understand the technology and workflow for Gallery/Control room/Desk control Systems and communicate these solutions both internally and to clients
  • Ability to understand the technology and workflow for Video Management/Processing best practices (UnReal/Render Nodes) for Mixed/Virtual/Augmented Reality system, and communicate these solutions both internally and to clients
  • A working knowledge of VizRT is highly desirable
  • An understanding of Ross video distribution systems is highly desirable
  • Proven IT skills, including use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Working knowledge of an internal e-mail system and electronic diary is essential
  • Previous experience of supporting and progressing project designs
  • Previous experience in a Technical AV role
  • Financial acumen, budget consciousness, and sharp eye for numbers
