Held in Makuhari Messe, Tokyo, Inter BEE is an international exhibition for professionals to engage, experience and interact with the accelerating evolution of content media, showcasing the very latest in audio, video and communications. It’s an event that d&b audiotechnik has attended on many occasions and they were back again this year; presenting its ground-breaking d&b Soundscape, which was brought to life as part of an immersive experience on the d&b demo booth.

Launched in January 2023 at ISE International in Barcelona, the d&b audio, video, lighting and media (AVLM) demo has since toured the globe, captivating international audiences.  This year saw its first appearance at Inter BEE, where four shows took place each day, immersing visitors in a full AVLM experience.

The idea to bring the demo room to Inter BEE came from Craig Lovell, who works for d&b audiotechnik Japan. He first saw the demo room at ISE and knew it would be ideal for the Japanese exhibition. He explains: “When I first saw the d&b demo room at ISE, I instantly knew that I wanted to bring it to Inter BEE. We were having past conversations with disguise to understand how we could showcase our technologies, and the demo room was the answer. It was such a success as visitors could understand instantly the capabilities of the d&b Soundscape which is such a powerful system. The collaboration and knowledge of d&b solutions to deploy immersive experiences was paramount to the success of the demo room and we learnt a lot.”

To bring the demo room to life, d&b audiotechnik worked closely with d&b solutions, manufacturers and local partners. Based in Tokyo, Audio Video Communications Ltd (AVC) supplied a 14m x 2.5m curved video wall using ROE panels and worked alongside disguise, Brompton Technologies, BlackTrax, and d&b solutions to create a state-of-the-art immersive demonstration. Alongside the video wall was an AVC-supplied tracked lighting rig and a d&b Soundscape that created an immersive acoustic environment. Using its two software modules En-Scene and En-Space, it made the system design and deployment more creative than ever.

As the demo started, visitors were instantly immersed into the content thanks to the AVLM technology that was synced in the room. Visitors were then brought into a jungle, flown through a busy city between skyscrapers, before being joined by musicians to further demonstrate the d&b Soundscape En-Scene and En-Space modes, giving them an understanding of object positioning and room emulation.

d&b solutions Production Project Specialist Tom Andrews comments: “Once again, we were thrilled to work alongside our colleagues to deliver a very successful demo room. It was great to see a packed audience for all of the demos – something that occurred right up until the end of the show! It was a good challenge to be working in a new environment for the first time, and the d&b audiotechnik’s Japan team really went above and beyond to work on such a huge scale. Everyone involved played a vital role and helped create something that was a truly amazing experience.” The d&b demo room will be back to ISE Barcelona Jan-Feb 2024.
