Central Hall Westminster
London, UK
The Project
The iconic Grade II listed Central Hall Westminster (CHW) is the largest conference and events venue in Central London, offering 23 varied rooms and impressively sized spaces capable of holding high-impact events for over 2,000 guests. The Great Hall is their flagship room and was in need of a state-of-the-art audio upgrade solution that would be quick, efficient and versatile in facilitating their varying event setups.
The Brief
The audio integration was based entirely on d&b audiotechnik products, using a range of loudspeaker technologies to achieve the desired goal, including XSL cardioid line arrays, high performance point sources, ultra-compact point sources and KSL cardioid subwoofers. The main central speaker hang comprises five XSLi8 and two XSLi12 line array loudspeaker modules, specifically designed for small to medium scale sound reinforcement. Using a cardioid speaker system helped to reduce any additional energy from being channeled into the already acoustically problematic dome.
The Solution
Initially forging a partnership with CHW in 2015, White Light had a comprehensive understanding of the site, which reinforced their ability to provide an innovative design tailored to the hall’s function as an events space, whilst being sympathetic to the architectural intricacies.
The results of this upgrade project are a quality of sound that is perfectly sculpted to this unique space, providing clear and consistent coverage throughout. The White Light team were determined to find a sustainable solution that would overcome the acoustic challenges of the venue, whilst meeting the functional demands required of the spectacular Great Hall – this was successfully achieved through the technical design and integration partnership with CHW, which underpinned this united endeavour.
